An ADHD Cooking Moment

Today I decided on an easy dinner, grilled cheese with tomato soup. What could go wrong? I’ve made it a million times and it is a simple, yet wonderful meal for a lazy day. I first got all of my ingredients ready, I laid out the bread, gathered the Velveeta, and softened the butter for spreading. At first I thought I was going to just add cream, and basil to my usual condensed tomato soup. But I got super excited when I saw we have the roasted red pepper tomato bisque I love so much.

Once I have everything ready to begin cooking, I pour the bisque into a pot and fire up the stove for both the frying pan and pot the bisque is in. Once hot, I spread the butter on both pieces of bread I slap it down into the pan with the Velveeta between them. I turn around for a second and that’s when it happens…I see the stems of basil I cut off my plant earlier today, well Dani’s plant but she doesn’t take care of it so it’s my plant now.

Before we get any further I should probably explain that I did the usual and chopped off the basil, and just threw them onto the dining room table. But any who…I think to myself, “I should bundle those up, and hang them to dry”. So in my usual fashion, I get all the stems evenly lined up and wrapped up with a rubber band. After this I decide I should let my son smell the fresh basil, then my cat, then after that…

I realize forgot about the grilled cheese I started to cook. It’s now burning, and that one piece of bread is now burnt toast.

Lesson learned is, don’t walk away from your grilled cheese while it’s cooking.

Oh Hi! I write stuff about my struggles with ADHD and procrastinating, and what ever really comes to mind at the time.
